Let’s take you back to 1980 in Bryan, TX. Two brothers, Nadeem and Shuja, got their first fishing rods as gifts from their father. With a big pond in their backyard, it was easy and convenient to learn how to fish. They caught various fish, including Sunfish, Catfish, Crappie, and the prized Large Mouth Bass, which brought them the most excitement. Soon, their parents started taking them on fishing trips to Galveston, Texas, where they fished the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
Buying a boat
As the brothers got older, they bought a boat and trailered it to Galveston for offshore fishing. About 45 minutes into the Gulf, the water changes from emerald green to dark blue. Fishing around oil rigs, they encountered their first school of Mahi. Shuja cast a lure into the school, quickly jigging it back. A Mahi chased the lure, struck aggressively, and was hooked. The fish leaped out of the water, showing vibrant blue, green, and yellow colors, and fought valiantly until it was reeled in. This moment sparked their love for Mahi and led to the creation of Mahi Run.
from texas to florida
Fast forward to 2011, the brothers moved to Boca Raton, FL, and bought a house on the water to dock their 23 ft. center console Everglades boat. They would take the boat through the calm, peaceful Intracoastal to the Boca inlet and then out to the beautiful turquoise waters of Florida. Searching for weed lines where Mahi feed on baitfish, they consistently brought Mahi home to grill.

how did the name mahi run come about?
Fishing conditions can change from one hour to the next. It’s ideal to go further out when waves are 0-1 ft for a faster, smoother ride. When waves are 1-3 feet, the brothers stay closer to shore to fish wrecks, reefs, or drift fish. However, conditions can quickly change from rough to flat waters, prompting one brother to ask, “Want to go on a Mahi Run?” meaning a trip from shore to 1-2 miles out to deeper waters where Mahi frequent. This is how the name Mahi Run came about.
